Memorial Day - Lone Survivor + "Murph" Workout

Free No purchase required to enroll
We are excited to be hosting a special Memorial Day event in honor of our fallen soldiers. We will start the day at 8am with a viewing of Lone Survivor and then follow it up by doing the Murph Workout at 10:30am. For those who aren't familiar with the Murph workout, it is a workout dedicated to Navy Lt. Michael Murphy, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in June of 2005. The movie "Lone Survivor" details "Operation Red Wings" the mission on which Lt. Murphy gave his life. The directors worked directly with those who served on that mission to portray what happened as accurately and honestly as possible to respect those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The workout was one of Lt. Murphy's favorites and consists of running 1 mile, then doing 100 pull-ups, 200 push-ups, 300 air squats, and then running another mile. You are allowed to break up the exercises however you would like (e.g. 10 pullups, 20 pushups, 30 squats, repeat). Those wishing to go all the way are invited to wear a 20 lbs weight vest (not supplied) or do it in combat body armor. We will provide plenty of modification options so that everyone can participate and push themselves to their limit including to but not limited to:
- The "Half-Murph," (Run 1/2 a mile, 50 pull-ups, 100 push-ups, and 150 air squats before running another 1/2 a mile.)
- Banded pull ups
- Incline/box pushups/knee push ups
We encourage you to pick the hardest modification you think you can realistically complete. Our goal is to honor the warrior spirit of those who had to endure much harder things than a tough workout. Depending on your fitness level you can expect this workout to take anywhere from 30 minutes to an 1 hour.

This event is geared toward Adults and Teens, if you would like your child to participate they are welcome to but be aware that Lone Survivor is a rated R war movie so parental discretion is advised. If you would like to just come for the workout portion and not the movie then please feel free to do that as well.

This workout will be free for all who either have a membership or pay for a child's membership. Instead of paying us we encourage you to donate what you would normally pay for a movie and fitness class to either:
- The LT. Michael P. Murphy Memorial Scholarship Foundation (501c3): https://murphfoundation.org/
- The Wounded Warrior Project: https://www.woundedwarriorproject.org/
If you cannot afford a donation please come anyway and honor our fallen and active duty service members through your presence. We will not be opening it up to the public beyond our Rock Solid members so we can have enough pull-up bars, etc., for those who wish to participate. If you have someone that you would like to bring along please let us know so we can see how much space we have available and if we can let them in.
